The Heritage Trail
The African American Heritage Trail tells the story of the first 100 years of Black life, culture and contribution in the city of St. Petersburg. From the settlement of John Donaldson, the first Black man in the city, to the Civil Rights era, the African American community shaped the very fabric of St. Petersburg.
Self-guided Walking Trail
The Heritage Trail, located on 22nd Street South and 9th Avenue South, is a self-guided walking trail that can be visited at any time.

The trail starts and ends at the Woodson African American Museum of Florida, located at 2240 9th Ave S, St. Petersburg, FL 33712. You can part at the museum and access the first trail stop right in front of the museum's building.
Guided Tours of the Trail
Guided trolley tours are scheduled for the first Saturday of every month, with the exception of June through August. On a guided tour, an expert Heritage Trail tour guide will lead you through each of the trail stops, relaying the stories and the history of the community.
To access the upcoming tour schedule, visit our Eventbrite page.
Video Series
To comply with health guidelines, the Heritage Association shuttered trolley tours during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020. In an effort to ensure the rich history and information was still available to the public, we worked in partnership with the Center for Health Equity, the Florida Holocaust Museum and a small team of creatives to digitize the trail. A full video series—one video for each of the 20 trail stops—is available on YouTube.
Mobile Guide
To enhance the walking tour experience, we worked with The Florida Holocaust Museum to create a mobile guide, which includes written descriptions, video, and historic photos for each trail stop. It's like having a guided tour!
Access the mobile guide here.
